To: Flint City Council

I’m writing concerning the lack of funding for the taping and public broadcasting of City council meetings.

I’ve come to count on these broadcasts due to my inability to attend city council meetings due to my work schedule.

I’m betting from the lack of response form my last letter I sent, concerning the purchase of Chevy Tahoes for the Flint police dept. That were never put up for bid, are considerably more dangerous as patrol vehicles than Chevy impalas, cost about five percent more to maintain than the Impala and purchased from an outside dealership. That you might consider ignoring me again. I ask that you reconsider getting this issue resolved. Since I may have to consider requesting Monday’s off so that I may attend city council meetings. Crime has run most businesses out of Flint and I cannot afford taking the time off. Last letter I only received responses from my last letter from two city councilman. (Jim and Erhen) I did later talk to Ms. Hill. However, I haven’t received a response to any concern for the last 4 messages I’ve left on her answering machines.

I’m sure that the intention is not to keep, the citizens interested in the affairs of the city, from keeping up to date on what is going on. However, you’ve had plenty of time to resolve this issue before the person doing the taping couldn’t afford to continue.

So, knowing that this has been an issue for some time now. And City council has failed to resolve this issue. What are we to think?

Once Don has been voted out next election. Your not going to be getting his backing for affairs of the city. You’ll have to begin to make your own decisions and not relay on the Don Williamson stamp of approval before voting yeah or neigh.

So why leave such a simple problem unresolved? If there is such an excellent relationship between council and the Mayor? Why is this so difficult to find funding? You found funding to spend more on PeterBilt Garbage trucks and the extra money to maintain them, to purchase Tahoes and then the extra money to maintain them. I for the life of me cannot figure out any reason the City cannot find a few thousand dollars a year to produce and broadcast the City council meetings for the public. Especially after the Mayor saw fit to lose 1.4 million in HUD dollars in 2005. When the money had already been allocated and approved. The only thing that needed to happen was to pay the people that had been approved for the funds. I’m having a hard time understanding all these decisions that cost more, yet are called a savings. So when something as important as making the council meetings available, to those who cannot afford to take the time off work to be at the meetings, available on TV? I do not see the problem in getting it resolved.

Council people. You’ve been elected to resolve these problems. Why would you leave yourselves open for more criticism over a simple and small issue? I just don’t understand the problem. If you cannot solve this simple of a issue. How are we to believe you’ll solve the hard issues? Can we please get this matter handled. By returning the council meetings to Channel 17. If your not going to fund Mr. Herring. Fund someone else. But, let’s see some action. Please!

Thank you,

Ted Jankowski
