Don't Snitch Stupidity - Because it doesn't really EXIST! It's just an excuse so no one has to be held accountable.

I just get so angry every time I hear these idiotic reasons for why people do not come forward with information for the Flint Police. Every single reason I’ve listed in this summary I can point right back to direct examples. From in this website, or from City Council meetings.

Here is what is so frustrating. Our elected officials continually promote these fictional ideas as to why they do not receive help form citizens. It just seems that have over active imaginations, when it comes to finding excuses, to not have to actually address the real problems or issues. If they spent just a small portion of that energy working on solving the problems of lack of police response, or inadequate justice or punishment, or corruption in the Police Dept. We’d have most of the crime in Flint solved.

So far, these are the reasons that I’ve been able to document. that have been given for the “Don’t Snitch” attitude or reluctance to come forward with information. Whichever way you wish to put it.

Reasons given, by officials, as to why people don’t come forward with information.

1.      Witnesses are more fearful of retaliation.

2.      They'd rather handle themselves

3.      Attitude of unwillingness

4.      Don't snitch" T-shirts

5.      Unwilling to come to court and testify, if necessary

6.      Conspiracy of silence

These are real reasons that I can point to. They are specific examples as to why people refuse to help police, or come forward with information.

Real reasons people do not come forward.

1.      Lack of trust or faith in Police dept.

a.       People call in to 911 and it takes over an hour for an officer to show up.

b.      Once officers on the scene. They treat the witnesses as criminals. Esp, if they have had problems with the police in the past.

c.       Police cannot arrest suspects unless they actually seen the crime happen in most cases.

d.      Crimes such as destruction of property and break-ins, are not considered high priority. If many of these crimes, are easy to solve, and nothing ever happens to those criminals. People don’t believe anything will ever happen when the higher priority crimes are committed. Such as murder and rape.

e.       When police have overwhelming evidence about a crime. They fail time and time again to respond or react to it.

2.      Fearful of retaliation form criminals.

a.       Police want people to just run out to their car and point out the people that committed the crime. So that the witnesses can be identified. Instead of knocking on doors and talking to all the neighbors, then arresting or talking to the suspects.  So that the criminals don’t know who it was that turned them in.

b.      We turn in the criminals. The system lets them out the next day because of lack of jail space, etc. Then the criminal comes back and harasses the witnesses.

3.      Failure of the justice system to actually do anything to the criminal.

a.       Criminals routinely are let go because of lack of jail space.

b.      If criminals are convicted. Their sentences are all too often barely a slap on the wrist. Probation or extended probation.

4.      Easier to take care of themselves when the problem escalates.

a.       When someone threatens you in your neighborhood. You don’t call police because they can’t or won’t do anything about it. So what else are you supposed to do?

b.      Citizens should not have to form watch groups. That essentially keeps tabs on officers in order to force them to do their jobs. By, turning them into their supervisors when they fail to act.
