Beth, it is interesting how people from outside the city claim to know so much when they understand so little of what is really going on. Why has Flint become a laughing stock? Let's see, we have a Mayor who thinks fighting crime is arresting journal carriers at City Hall. We have a Mayor who publicly lies about elected officials; namely his out and out lies about Dale Kildee's voting record and stands on CAFTA and NAFTA. We have a Mayor who openly violates city ordinances then blames everyone else. We elected a Mayor who makes outrageous promises that he never intends to keep. Then we have people who don't have a clue as to what really is happening who stand up and defend his stupidity. As far as your concerns about Eric Mays. He's been right on most everything he has said. Great you took the time to look at the statements. But obviously can't add and don't understand the laws. If you'd really like to find out CLICK HERE Ask yourself a few simple questions. If those vehicles were leased, why did they still have dealer plates? How much gas was paid for and how many vehicles were being driven? If you wanted to rent a park in the city, would the city repaint it to match your theme and them go out of its way to make sure you ahd everything you needed? (install banners, make signs, provide tables and chairs; the city claims it does. But I know many people who ever got that type of help when they rented the park.) How have they moved the City of Flint forward? Let me just pop off a few highlights just off the top of my head. 1. Arrested Flint Journal Carrier at City Hall costing taxpayers over 140,000.00 2. Had 12 officers at a housing commission meeting (yet we don't have enough officers to respond to complaints or 911 calls) 3. Had Police investigating Eric Mays for threatening to recall one of Don's supporters on the Council (yet we don't have enough officers to handle citizens complaints) 4. Had three police cars at Brennen Center because Eric Mays was collecting signatures for the Mayor's recall. (yet officers still hadn't responded to a break in just three blocks away from Brennen Center. 5. Flint was on a downward trend of crime going down in the city. For the last ten years crime was going down an average of TEN PERCENT (10%) per year. Until the Mayor took over and Flint saw its first increase in ten years Seventeen Percent! Followed by another 12 percent in 2005. Of which the Mayor stated in his 2005 State of the City address that "Major Crime was reduced." In 2005 only one MAJOR CRIME was reduced and that was rape. Rape was down in Flint in 2005. Every other area was up! I submit because of police being used for his own personal issues that they are not out doing the job that had been doing in the past. 6. When you talk about how they love Flint. They see Flint as a way to make even more money. The Mayor nixed the casino proposal that was to go into Flint. By attempting to get it put on his own property in Mt. Morris. Then Blasted Kildee for not wanting to bring jobs to Flint? Correct me if I'm wrong. But last time I checked Mt. Morris isn't inside the city limits of Flint! 7. If you want to give the Mayor credit for paving roads. I'll agree. However, My Opinion is that I would rather drive on pot holes and not have to worry about criminals. I would rather see the jail opened and a new jail built than hire any more officers, pave any more roads, bring anymore jobs to property that is annexed property out in Flint township. I sure wouldn't be trying to claim that as a MAJOR VICTORY for economic development in the City. Where ADI is, its at he further point possible from being in the City of Flint.
